Common questions

Which languages does Wordset teach?

Japanese and Swiss German (Zürich dialect). Each word comes with pronunciation audio in a native voice, its written form, where it is used, and, for Japanese, how to write it.

Does it work offline?

Yes, entirely. Wordset never connects to the internet. Everything is inside the app.

Do I need an account?

No. There is nothing to sign up for.

Where is my progress stored, and can I move it to a new phone?

On your device only. Wordset has no cloud, so progress does not sync between phones. A full device backup restores it along with the rest of your apps; deleting the app deletes it.

I cannot read hiragana yet. Can I see the romanised reading?

Yes. Romaji is shown under every kana by default. You can turn it off in Settings when you no longer need it.

How does the review schedule work?

Wordset uses spaced repetition (the FSRS algorithm). Rate each word honestly and the app schedules the next review so you see a word again just before you would forget it. The progress view shows only what the data supports; it will not invent a streak.

Where does the content come from?

Kanji and word readings come from KANJIDIC2 and JMdict (Electronic Dictionary Research and Development Group, CC BY-SA 4.0). Stroke data comes from Make Me a Hanzi and animCJK. Audio was generated with ElevenLabs. The full credits are in the app under Settings, Acknowledgements.
